Langres
As part of the tricentenary celebration of Denis Diderot's birth, the city of Langres (birthplace of Diderot), has launched several initiatives, including:
ARTFL is currently working on a collaborative project with Langres to provide high-definition scans of the Encyclopédie plate volumes, which will be available in the coming months. We are also very pleased to offer our users high quality images of the re-imagining of some of the Encyclopédie's most iconic plates, taken from the Encyclopéde revisitée project mentioned above. These images (see below), both playful and poignant, attest to the lasting cultural significance of the Encyclopédie as a living and ever-evolving object of study.
